Bev and her husband Adrian worked with their local MS Queensland Service Coordinator to access funding for a beach wheelchair which has given her access to the beach she loves so much.

In the Spring edition of MS Life we feature John, who has lived with MS now for 33 years. After making the decision to retire from a high stress job, John has established a regime of daily exercise activities including swimming and cycling to manage the progression of his MS. MS Queensland worked closely with John and his local gym to implement appropriate and beneficial exercise programs for locals living with MS.

In this Autumn edition of MS Life we feature Glenn, who built his home with his own hands, a lot of sweat and truck loads of determination. Glenn’s passion was to see his family grow, and to continue calling the place he built, his home. After living with MS for nearly 20 years and being actively involved in the MS community, Glenn needed support in building a ramp to more safely access his home, and MS Queensland was there to offer that support.

For this edition, our cover story has been nearly 40 years in the making. It is a love story between Carmel and Byron, who didn’t let physical strength, distance or MS get in the way of their dreams of living together. After making the extremely difficult decision nine years ago for Carmel to move into supported accommodation with MS Queensland, this year they will celebrate their first Christmas at home, together, again. This is the powerful story of a man who rebuilt himself physically, to bring the love of his life home. Don’t miss it on page 16.

Enabling Veva to continue living a positive lifestyle, involvement in family life and employed at a childcare centre, all of which bring her great pleasure.

We are also inviting you to save the date for the 2015 MS Queensland Annual Conference and AGM. The event will be held on Friday 27 November 2015 from 10am at the Southbank Institute of Technology, South Brisbane.

This edition of MS Life features Josie Potter on the cover, who has faced an array of challenges and health struggles throughout her journey with MS over the last 15 years. However, despite living three hours away on a cattle property near Kingaroy, Josie has participated in the MS Moonlight Walk and MS Brissie to the Bay bike ride for the last five years, building up to ride the 50km course!

Things haven't always been easy for Josie, yet she continues to live positively and is one of our most determined, committed and strong-willed event participants and MS ambassadors.

Today, living in Rockhampton with her husband Shannon, two year old son Tate and another baby on the way, Rachel is one of the most determined, dedicated and infectiously positive young women that we've ever met.

This edition of MS Life features Grem Warrington on the cover who was diagnosed with MS in 2012 after suffering symptoms that date back to 2007. He knew “something wasn’t quite right” and in 2010 his MS symptoms had escalated. Despite going through some trying times, he now has a positive attitude towards his MS and tries not to let MS run his life.

Meet Kate Casey who lives in Townsville and was diagnosed with MS at the tender age of 18. She had just started university and had her whole life ahead of her.

Fast forward almost ten years and Kate is living with MS as best she can. Just recently she decided to set up a MS group for young people living with MS to see that it doesn't have to be "the end of the world."

MS Life Winter 2014

This edition features MS Australia's Seeing MS campaign which sees nine world class photographers work with nine Australians living with MS - including Australian comedian Tim Ferguson, featured on the cover - to describe their MS symptoms.

As experts in the field of multiple sclerosis, MS Societies in Australia are very aware of the wide range of symptoms that affect people who have MS. We also know that many of the symptoms are both ‘invisible’ and hard to explain to loved ones, friends and work colleagues.

It is hoped the Seeing MS campaign will help change the public perception of the disease and promote a deeper understanding in the wider community.

MS Life Autumn 2014

This edition features MS Queensland CEO Lincoln Hopper, Gary Allen and Professor Michael Pender.

Professor Pender’s recent research that was published globally in the International Journal of Multiple Sclerosis attracted a whirlwind of media attention across the State, suggesting that controlling infection with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) – the most common cause of glandular fever – may be beneficial in treating secondary progressive MS. This experimental treatment was trialled on one of our clients from Brisbane, Gary Allen.

Since her diagnosis, Anna has faced a number of challenges, yet embraces positivity and has continued on to finish her financial planning degree. With the support of her family and boyfriend Matthew, Anna has participated in the MS Moonlight Walk each year, travelling from the Gold Coast rain, hail or shine.

The 30-year-old has always led an active lifestyle and has recently challenged himself to some of Europe’s highest mountain roads in the new MS Cycle de France event – a 525km road ride through various stages of the 2013 Tour De France.

Since his diagnosis, Brendan has continued to live his life to the full with startling optimism. He embraces a positive outlook on life and is about to welcome his first child into the world with partner Lucy.

Once having been confined to a wheelchair, Brendan tells his inspirational story of how MS Queensland's physiotherapy services have helped him gradually regain his strength and better manage his MS.
