Life with MS is as unpredictable as the condition itself and full of unique challenges. It seems these days there’s an app for nearly everything, and MS is no exception. Below is a list of useful apps recommended by MS Queensland that can be downloaded to your mobile or tablet. They are designed to educate you about the condition, share your MS symptoms with others and participate in our various fundraising events.

MS Xplained

MS Xplained is a free, innovative resource aimed at explaining complicated disease information to patients and their families through storytelling. It follows the journey of two real patients and breaks down what multiple Sclerosis (MS) is, explains treatment options, as well as side effects and psychological issues.

MS Xplained features the stories of Astrid and Melissa, strangers that were brought together because of their MS and their desire to share their stories and help others.

MS Xplained has been developed and collaborated with input from patients, neurologists, researchers, nurses, MS Australia and MS Research Australia and is sponsored by Novartis Australia.

MS 3Dme

The video in this app was specifically created for people newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The objective of the video is to help those diagnosed with MS, their family, friends, parents and teachers to understand this condition better. An improved understanding of the condition will hopefully alleviate some of the anxiety newly diagnosed people can experience. This app also has a series of questions and answers and users are encouraged to share and tweet their results.

The central nervous system (CNS), which consists of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, is affected by MS. Using high definition 3D visualisation and multimedia we take a look inside the human body at the nerve cells in the CNS to explain the sclerosing or scarring of the myelin sheath covering the axon of the
oligodendrocyte (nerve cell). This sclerosing causes the
transmission of nerve impulses to be slowed or dissipated.

Seeing MS

Help expose the invisible disease. Seeing MS is a global photographic project that visualises the symptoms of MS.

Most symptoms go unnoticed by everyone except the person living with them. One day they can alter your memory, the next your vision. Striking without warning and leaving no trace, they are invisible.

The Seeing MS app now invites everyone with a camera to uncover the unseen. Photo filters based on each symptom will allow you to see and share how MS affects those living with the disease.

CountUp - Rehabilitation exercise tracker screen696x696screen696x696 1

Stay motivated and keep your rehab on track with CountUp. Rehab can be a long, slow process, so CountUp is here to remind you that you’re making progress.

CountUp is different to other exercise apps. It doesn’t have standardised videos or an automatic countdown. CountUp is about recording your exercises, your efforts and your results.

Lucy Watts created CountUp after searching for a rehab tracking app for her father Garry, who has had MS for more than 30 years. When she couldn’t find one, she decided to develop one herself. Garry is now happily completing his rehab and both he and his physiotherapists enjoy monitoring his progress in CountUp.
