Are you living with multiple sclerosis (MS) in Queensland and looking for help with employment?  MS Queensland’s Employment Support Service is here to help you achieve your career goals.

We recently had the opportunity to speak with one of our service users, Jen, who shared her inspiring journey and the invaluable support she received from our team.

Jen was diagnosed with MS at the age of 36 in 2012, and after previously being self-employed, Jen felt uncertain about re-joining the workforce after her MS diagnosis. That’s where our dedicated team of professionals stepped in!

The advice and support Jen received from MS Queensland’s Employment Support Service had a transformative impact on her career. With our guidance, she applied for her first job at in early April 2019, which she successfully secured and has happily remained in that role.

Initially working 25 hours a week, Jen has gradually transitioned to 18 hours per week over the years, customising her work arrangements to suit her needs.

Describing her experience with our team, Jen emphasised how having them in her corner has been truly amazing.

What surprised Jen the most was the genuine friendships she formed with the team. Simply talking to them and sharing her worries alleviated her stress and made her feel understood. Our team became a trusted source of support, always available for a conversation when she needed it the most.

Among the various services provided by MS Queensland’s Employment Support Service, Jen found the assistance with crafting a cover letter to be particularly valuable. Writing an effective cover letter can often be daunting, she reflects,

“The cover letter was what I was most concerned about, and probably the most important. They really guided me in the right direction with how to write it.”

The teams continued support not only helped Jen secure her desired position but also made work less burdensome.

“They have made work easy for me; it’s not the chore that work needs to be.”

To anyone considering accessing MS Queensland’s Employment Support Service, Jen offers some advice:

“You absolutely have to give it a go. With the support from the team, everything is easy. No matter the situation, they are always there to help you find the solution. Even if it’s just talking out some of your worries.”

Our service is designed to empower individuals like Jen, providing tailored assistance and guidance to navigate the employment landscape successfully.
